Burning Books for a Cause

Today marks the one year anniversary of the famous vote to save Troy Public Libraryin Troy, Mich. The city almost lost its library last year, until library supporters launched an attention-getting reverse-psychology campaign to remind residents why they still need books!

YES! Magazine recently featured this video, which tells the story of the book burning campaign. It's not what you think! No books were harmed in the rolling out of this campaign. After the library asked its city to support a 0.7% tax hike that would keep it in operation, Tea Party members in the community loudly and adamantly opposed the increase. So the Library responded in the most unexpected way possible.

We think library supporters' reply to local opposition was brilliant. Best of all, it garnered the support needed to approve the tax increase and save the library.
